FAQ

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?

Hibernate contains a potent combination of zinc orotate, magnesium citrate, vitamin D3, and a tiny dusting of melatonin. The quantities of each ingredient are intended to replenish normal levels of these nutrients, especially when they've been depleted after intense exercise. Together they help initiate the cascade of events that lead to deep, natural sleep and nocturnal muscle recovery.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TAKE IT?

If you routinely do not get enough sleep, we recommend taking Hibernate every night, or until you feel like you don't need it anymore. We certainly take it every night ourselves. The product can also be used for jet-lag, in which case we recommend taking it for 3-4 nights.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Hibernate is designed to restore commonly deficient vitamins and minerals associated with sleep. For example, estimates suggest nearly half of adult men and women in the United States don't get enough magnesium in their diets. Older adults are more vulnerable to such deficiencies, women are also at higher risk, especially with age, and hard-training athletes tend to be in a chronic-state of deprivation. This is not good, because magnesium plays an important role in supporting the healthy functioning of GABA, a neurotransmitter that promotes sleep.

Our bodies, however, do not produce magnesium, nor zinc, nor vitamin D. They must obtain the first two from dietary sources, including dark leafy greens, seeds and nuts, squash, broccoli, and other vegetables, legumes, and grass-fed meat. Vitamin D only comes from exposure to sunlight. And let's be honest, couldn't we all stand to eat more of the good stuff and get a little more sun in our lives?

By including a tiny amount of melatonin, Hibernate aims to kickstart the utilization of these minerals in the natural processes that lead to sleep, without causing restlessness or intrusive bouts of dreaming.

In our experience, once these vitamins and minerals have been restored to optimal levels with Hibernate, most people enjoy vastly improved sleep. Your body still does all the work. We just give your body the tools it needs to create great sleep.

WILL IT MAKE ME FEEL HUNGOVER?

The vitamins, minerals, and nutrients in Hibernate are all normally found in your body, just usually at suboptimal levels. Hibernate is not a soporific drug. Since it helps you transition to sleep in a natural way, grogginess the next morning is highly unlikely.

CAN I TAKE HIBERNATE AFTER DRINKING ALCOHOL?

If you have consumed excessive amounts of alcohol, we do not recommend taking Hibernate. Hibernate contains small amounts of melatonin, which when combined with alcohol can affect your liver's ability to create certain enzymes. This could potentially cause increased drowsiness, dizziness, risk of falling or fainting, or trouble breathing. Instead, we recommend a strong multivitamin, a giant green juice, or big glass of water and chlorella. Trust us. You'll thank us in the morning.

CAN I TAKE MORE THAN ONE DOSE?

No, you should only take the recommended dosage. Too much magnesium can cause diarrhea, and Hibernate does have a robust dose of magnesium. Some people, typically those who've taken sleeping drugs or antidepressants, might feel a resistance to Hibernate. If this is the case, we recommend paying close attention to your sleep hygiene, i.e. turning lights off 1-2 hours before bed, avoiding blue lights and TV/mobile phone screens, and keeping a clean and cool sleeping space.

DOES HIBERNATE HAVE DROWSY SIDE EFFECTS?

No way! Hibernate doesn't sedate you with exogenous chemicals, like sleeping pills or alcohol. Normal sleep drugs work by either mimicking or blocking normal chemical processes in your body and your brain. Hibernate only makes sure that your body has everything it needs to fall asleep in a normal, natural way. You may feel a sense of physical relaxation after taking Hibernate (hence why it's so popular for recovery among athletes). Many sexually active males also report increased ejaculate volume as a side effect. But when it comes to waking up in the morning, you should feel as natural and clear-headed as ever.

WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO WAKE UP FOR MY CHILD?

Many sleep drugs actually render users unconscious or inflict states of retrograde amnesia. Hibernate does not. Hibernate is designed to help your body create normal, recuperative sleep, the kind in which most people wake easily to loud noises such as babies crying, alarms going off, or meteors crashing through the living room ceiling.

HOW MANY SERVINGS ARE IN A BOTTLE?

There are 30 servings in every bottle. Each serving is 3 capsules. However, people of a very low bodyweight may find that Hibernate works well for them with only 2 capsules, in which case they are lucky, as the laws of mathematics thus give them 45 servings in every bottle. For most people however, there are 30 servings of delicious sleep in every bottle.

IS IT SAFE TO GIVE TO MY CHILD?

This product has not been tested on children. It is not recommended for individuals under the age of 18.

DOES HIBERNATE INCLUDE GABA?

No, Hibernate does not include GABA. We learned that optimized magnesium levels negates the need for excess synthetic amino acids floating around in your head. In fact, researchers have known for nearly 20 years that GABA receptors are regulated by the amount of serum magnesium present. Much as it does with melatonin, magnesium acts as an agonist for these GABA receptors and actually helps them work. In fact, they don’t seem to work well without it. Thus, many sleep problems likely aren’t related to GABA deficiency, but more likely magnesium deficiency.
